Dear Chávez Families and Staff,
Although it was not necessarily the news we wanted to hear, it doesn't
seem anyone was surprised by the superintendent's announcement that our
school would be closed for the rest of the year. In fact many people
expressed relief that we now know our status and can plan accordingly. And
it is better that we do the remediation and reconstruction methodically and
only do it once, rather than in haste.
The most recent building information I have to share is that during the
process of inspection on Thursday at Chávez, mold growth has been found in
the areas behind the skylights of the art room, LMC, and cafeteria.
Furniture movement was completed on Thursday night to arrange for students
to eat and line up for busses in the gyms beginning this morning. The after
school program will also be in the gym area. These mold areas will be
remediated over the weekend.
Here are some of the things that are in the works at our school:
- This week we returned to the 4th graders the contents of their desks
and with that we have now returned the contents of lockers and desks to all
students.
- All their supplies and materials are now accessible to our teachers and
the can come and retrieve at their convenience. This required a mighty
effort on the part of our custodial staff and we greatly appreciate
it.
- I have begun a series of meetings with our teachers and the host
principals at each school to see what further actions we can take to
enhance the situation. Your ideas are warmly welcomed.
- Beginning next week we are going to begin to use our safety patrol to
help us with the loading of buses in the morning.
- FYI- You can put money into your child's food account either here at
Chávez or at the host school, which ever is more convenient.
- Although more and more our classes are being included in activities at
the host school, still I would like to do whatever we can to keep the
spirit of Chávez going-i.e.- school dance, potluck. I know this has been
expressed at the PTO and again we welcome your ideas.
Remember if you need to reach me it's: office 442-2006, cell 220-2947,
