Dear Chávez Families and Staff:
As we reach the final week of school I want to update you on the latest
news regarding our school.
- The reconstruction is going well, there have been no surprises and it
is on schedule. We anticipate that the reconstruction will be complete by
the end of July and we will be able to set rooms back up beginning in early
August.
- Air quality tests have been done in every room, 75+ in all, and no
problems have been found with air quality.
- Throughout the summer, by way of letters, we will keep you informed as
to the status of the school. The mailings will be on 6/21, 7/5, 7/19, 8/2
and 8/19. Information will also be posted on the district's website: http://www.madison.k12.wi.us
- A transition committee of school and district staff and parents has
been meeting regularly working out all the details to make the return to
our school as smooth as possible.
- Report cards will be handed out next Thursday, 6/6. Regarding the
"specials" part of the report card it will be different depending upon who
taught a particular "specials" class. In many instances the report will be
the same as if we were at Chávez but in some situations where the
"special" was taught by someone out of their field of expertise, or by a
sub in a short term situation, you will receive a brief narrative of what
went on in class.
- Next Friday, 6/7, the last day of school will be from 8:30-10:00 a.m.
here at Chávez. We will have a school wide program, and I hope that
it is not only a nice way to end the year together but also that it
provides momentum for a successful return to our school. It will be a
good time for students to bring their Memory books to get autographs from
other students.
I will be around for most of the summer. Please feel free to contact
me: office-442-2006, cell- 220-2947, home-274-5695.
On behalf of the staff, thank you for your understanding and support
through this most peculiar of years. Have a wonderful summer and together
we will come back here next year and make this a great school.
Sincerely,
Howard Fried
