Principal Fried to Chávez Parents and Staff

June 21, 2002

Dear Chávez Families and Staff:

We had a wonderful morning together on the last day of school. It was great to have us all under one roof. It felt like a school again. We began the morning with a PTO sponsored breakfast for the staff followed by an all school assembly. The activities included the pledge, a musical selection from different grades who during the year had performed in the evening here but many other students had not had a chance to hear them, recognition of our 5th graders, happy birthdays to those who have summer birthdays, a chance to play on our greatly missed playground and lots of cheers for all of us who were part of this memorable year. Special thanks to the PTO for the breakfast, your ongoing support and for sponsoring the "Chávez Cheetah T-shirt" that was given to the adults who are part of the "Chávez Adventure Team"-- and special thanks to John Slattery for designing our cheetah logo.

Here's the latest information on the reconstruction of our school provided by Rick Hopke, MMSD Coordinator of Facilities Engineering:

I will be around most of the summer. If you need to reach me: office-442-2006, cell-220-2947, home-274-5695, <hfried@madison.k12.wi.us>. I hope your summer is going well.

Sincerely,
Howard Fried
Principal
