Dear Chávez Families and Staff:
As we prepare for the upcoming school year one of the more difficult tasks, with families moving in and out over the summer, is creating accurate class lists. With that in mind the district has set up a mechanism for students to enroll throughout the summer. If you have new neighbors with school age children who haven't registered please have them call our school at 442-2000 and the recording will direct them on how to proceed. Likewise, if you are moving away or know someone who is and we haven't previously been notified, please call me at 442-2006 and leave a message.
One half of our gym is now filled up with the materials that we were using at our host schools. As soon as the reconstruction is complete we will move them as we reclaim our classrooms. Here's the latest on the reconstruction from Rick Hopke, the district's Coordinator of Facilities Engineering:
Bachmann Construction Company, Inc. (BCCI) has completed the majority of the reconstruction on the first floor. Remaining work is pending receipt of materials and includes miscellaneous locker parts, rubber wall base.
Cabinets have been received and are being installed.
Filters in the first floor classroom areas have been taken down as work in nearing completion.
Custodial crews continue to clean rooms on the first floor.
Work continues on the second floor reconstruction. Crews are painting walls, installing cabinets and completing repairs to ceilings. Lockers are being installed as walls are completed.
The duct insulation repairs have been completed.
Second floor return and exhaust ducts continue to be protected with filter media to prevent construction dust from entering the ventilation systems.
Onyx has completed removing the lower 2 inches of gypsum board in the office area, strings room, LMC and Physical Education Office. Reconstruction by BCCI is in-progress. Crews are insulating duct and piping penetrations at wall intersections to prevent condensation. The return and exhaust ducts are protected with filter media in these areas to prevent construction dust from entering the ventilation systems.
Repairs to the sky lights have been completed.
Replacement of the existing kiln exhaust hood in the Art Room area is in-progress.
Air balancing work is being scheduled to start in July.
BCCI has ordered the brick to be used to make repairs to the exterior flashing. Repairs to begin following receipt of brick. Delivery is expected in approximately one week.
Work continues to be on schedule.
I hope you are enjoying the summer. If you want to reach me: Office-442-2006, Cell Phone-220-2947, Home-274-5695.
