Chávez Closed Tomorrow

Classes Assigned to Other Schools Beginning Friday

Given the additional discovery of mold yesterday at Chávez Elementary School and the uncertainties it raised, the best course of action for the safety of Chávez students and staff is to close the school until corrective actions have been completed. Closing the school temporarily allows for the continued systematic evaluation, diagnosis and remediation of any environmental issues in the building.

While a detailed plan is still being developed at this hour, the following plan elements are being released:

No school on Thursday, November 29 for Chávez students
Classes resume for Chávez students on Friday, November 30 at temporary school assignments through Friday, December 21
School will resume at Chávez on Monday, January 7, 2002

The temporary closing of the school is being done because the primary concern for students and staff is their safety.

The complete school assignment plan will be released at an informational meeting at 7:00 p.m. tonight at Chávez School.
