Minutes added to school days for 34 MMSD schools: All elementaries and 3 high schools to dismiss later

Because Madison Schools were closed for two days this winter due to cold and snow, all 31 elementary schools and three high schools will add minutes to each school day starting Monday. One middle school will shorten its lunch hour by a few minutes.

All of this will be done to meet the requirements for instructional minutes throughout the school year as set forth by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.

This is how the schools which are below the required instructional minutes will be adjusting their schedules to accommodate additional minutes per day, starting Monday February 25:

This means that all elementary schools and the three high schools will be dismissing students later. School start times will NOT be affected by these changes.

All bus companies, all after-school child care organizations and all after-school activity programs will accommodate these changes.

This schedule will remain in effect until the end of the school year in June unless inclement weather causes additional school day closings.

MMSD schools were closed on January 30 due to cold and February 6 due to snow. This is the first winter that Madison schools were closed for more than one day since the winter of 2000-01.
