Superintendent search process

August 30, 2007 – The Madison Board of Education kicked off the search for a new Superintendent at their Monday evening (August 27) meeting.  Superintendent Art Rainwater has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2007-08 school year.  Working with consulting firm Hazard, Young and Attea, Inc., the Board mapped out the dates and action items leading up to the announcement of a new Superintendent.  The target for having a new Superintendent hired is February 2008 so there is time for a detailed transition with Superintendent Rainwater.

The first step in the process is development of a Superintendent Leadership Profile.  Focus groups and community forums are being organized for September 19 and 20 in which the consultants will collect information from staff and the community on what characteristics they believe are important in a new Superintendent.  Details on how the community can participate in the profile development will be available the week of September 4.

At the Board of Education meeting on October 8, the consultants will present to the Board and the community the results of the profile.  Once the profile is the approved by the Board, actual recruiting will begin.

“We are fortunate to be working with a consultant firm with experience on a national level.  I am happy with the involvement of staff and community up-front in the process and feel confident that we will have a great field of candidates from which to choose,” said Board President Arlene Silveira.
