The Madison School District community is being asked to develop a Superintendent Leadership Profile by the Board of Education in a series of community input sessions on September 19 and 20.
These sessions are part of the early process of searching for a new Superintendent of Schools to replace Art Rainwater who has announced that he will be retiring at the end of the 2007-08 school year.
Community input will be collected at these sessions via a Leadership Profile Assessment, a short form that asks for the qualities needed in a new superintendent and other thoughts regarding the MMSD. An example of a question: “Please share two characteristics which you would like to see in the new superintendent.”
The Assessment can also be completed online at www.mmsd.org under Superintendent Search.
There are three Community Information and Input Sessions to which citizens of the Madison School District are invited:
These sessions will likely be 60 to 90 minutes in length. They will be facilitated by representatives of Hazard, Young and Attea, Inc., the consultant firm with national experience in superintendent searches that the Board has retained for this process.
In addition to the community sessions, the Board will receive input from community groups and leaders, student and parent organization leaders, staff, and current and former Board members.
All the input will be used to develop a profile of leadership qualities for the new superintendent, which will be presented by Hazard, Young to the Board of Education at its meeting on October 8. Once the profile is approved by the Board, actual recruiting will begin.
The target for having a new Superintendent hired is February 2008 so that there will be time for a detailed transition with Rainwater.
