Distribution of Non-School Related Materials Policy

Agencies or groups wishing to distribute information through schools must meet the following criteria. The program/activity must:

  1. serve public school aged students,
  2. not violate any law,
  3. be considered appropriate as determined by the Superintendent or designee.

Requirements

(Failure to meet any of the specific requirements will result in the material not being distributed through the schools.)

  1. Material must be approved by the Superintendent or designee. (address: MMSD, 545 West Dayton Street, 53703; phone: 663-1879; fax: 204-0342)
  2. The following disclaimer must appear on each piece of material:
"This is not a school sponsored activity and the Madison Metropolitan School District does not approve, support, or endorse this program/activity."
  3. Distribution of materials will not interfere with classroom instruction.
  4. Agencies or groups receiving approval will sort material in bundles for each class and deliver materials to the school(s).
  5. Material distributed will be produced at the expense of the agency or group.
  6. A telephone number must be included so parents can obtain further information.
  7. If a form is to be completed and returned, an address must be provided for return directly to the agency or group.

Suggestions

  1. It is strongly encouraged that agencies or groups seeking approval to distribute materials in schools provide versions in the languages spoken by the families receiving the information.
  2. It is strongly encouraged that scholarships or subsidized fees are offered to low income students if fees are required for participation.
