Transition Education Program

The mission of the Transition Education Program, which is sponsored by the Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD), is to provide homeless children and youth equitable access to educational opportunities afforded "housed" children. Services include but are not limited to:

  • Direct instruction
  • Academic screening
  • Advocacy
  • Transportation
  • School supplies
  • Resource development
  • Staff development
  • Community education about homelessness and mobility
  • Coordination with community services

The goal is to have all students who are homeless meet the high academic, behavioral and attendance expectations of MMSD. Emphasis is placed on overcoming all barriers that prevent children who are homeless from being successful.
