Subject: DISASTER ALARM PROCEDURES

1. The sounding alarm means evacuate the building immediately. It is used for fire or other dangers requiring evacuation.

2. The responsibility of department general office persons in the event of alarm is to notify all others in the department to evacuate the building via the nearest exit.

3. Severe weather warning will be given via the Emergency Alerting System from the Security Office.

4. Depending on the nature of the disaster, the following should be notified immediately:

A. Fire - Call Fire Department (9-911) then notify Security (3-8448). Sound alarm and evacuate building if required.

B. Bomb Threat - Notify Police Department (9-911) then call Security at (3-8448). To notify students/staff in the building the P.A. system, not the alarm system, should be used.

C. Severe Weather – Notify staff via the P.A. system that all personnel should proceed at once to designated safe areas (interior corridors on first floor or lower level).

D. Other Disasters, Injuries, Etc. - Call Security at 3-8448.

5. On evacuation, everyone should move as far away as reasonable from building.

6. Return to building will be signaled as soon as possible by intermittent sounding of the alarm, short irregular sequences.

7. Department heads are responsible for return of all personnel.

8. Questions, if any, about this procedure should be asked of department heads.
