Subject: Re-employment of Retired MMSD Administrators, Sick Leave Accumulation
Source(s):

Retired MMSD Administrators who are re-employed as an administrator to serve in an acting position for a limited amount of time shall fall under the following rules concerning sick leave accumulation:

  1. Retirees hired during a contract year will accumulate sick leave under the following guidelines:
    1. In order to qualify for this benefit, an Administrative Retiree must work twenty (20) or more days during a contract year. Any Administrative Retiree who works less than twenty (20) days during a contract year will not be eligible for this benefit.

    2. All time worked during a contract year will be eligible for inclusion into the calculation of this benefit. All time worked must be submitted to the Executive Director of Human Resources for validation prior to calculation.

    3. A monetary calculation will be completed at the end of the contract year for time worked (20 or more days) during that contract year. The formula shall be:

The number of days worked in the contract year divided by the normal contract length for the position times the number of sick leave days associated with that position minus the number of sick leave days taken during assignments times the administrator’s daily rate times the prevailing current percentage multiplier at the time of calculation.

Current Example: For contract year 2002-03, a retiree working 45 days as an elementary principal who used no sick leave while on assignment and who is being paid at step 10 will be eligible for 45 divided by 218 times 12 minus 0 times $351.35 times 90% = $783.28.

  1. For retirees with an existing escrow account, this total will be deposited into the escrow fund.

  2. For retirees without an existing escrow account, this total shall be paid as a salary differential.
