Administrative positions with the Madison Metropolitan School District are classified according to a job-to-job comparison method which evaluates and weights four basic factors that exist in all of the administrative positions to a varying degree. Each factor is further divided into two related elements, as shown here:

Once evaluated according to the eight elements, each position is classified into one of 13 grades on the Administrator Salary Schedule.
Procedures for Classifying New Administrative Positions
1. Supervisor(s) requesting the classification of a new position must complete a Position Analysis Questionnaire. The questionnaire and rationale for the request shall be forwarded to the Department of Human Resources.
2. A designated representative of the Department of Human Resources shall conduct a job site audit including, but not limited to, interview(s) with the appropriate supervisor(s).
3. The Department of Human Resources shall prepare a report including recommendations concerning the requested classification, a copy of which shall be provided to the affected supervisor(s).
4. The finding or recommendation of the Department of Human Resources shall be forwarded, for consideration and action, to a committee consisting of the Districts Assistant Superintendents and the Director of Human Resources. Information regarding job evaluation procedures shall be provided to Committee members. Upon completion of its proceedings, the Committee shall render its decision. The Committee shall forward its recommendation to the Superintendent for final approval.
