Hours of Work: Full-time Teachers and Other Related Professionals
For the purposes of this policy and in accordance with the Board of Education/Madison Teachers Incorporated Collective Bargaining Agreement, "teachers and other related professionals" includes but is not necessarily limited to:
teachers, psychologists, social workers, school nurses, attendants and visitation workers, psychometrists, remedial reading teachers, librarians, Title I coordinators, guidance counselors, therapists, interpreters/Braillists, science materials specialists, and University Hospital teachers.
Full-time teaching is defined as 25 hours of classroom instruction per week (5 classes per day or 4 classes plus a study hall, or any other combination of assigned regular teaching duties unrelated to extra duty), OR: 75 modules per week in those schools using modular scheduling.
Teachers are to be in their assigned buildings continuously when school is in session, unless excused by a principal.
HOURS: FULL-TIME ELEMENTARY TEACHERS
The school day for all full-time elementary teachers begins 15 minutes before school is scheduled to start and ends 30 minutes after school closes. Elementary principals, in setting student hours, shall conform to the following standards on minutes teachers should be with students:
Half-day K and grades 1 - 5
Mondays: 280
Tuesdays - Fridays: 334
Full-Day K
Mondays: 280
Tuesdays - Fridays: 374
The principal and faculty may adjust the beginning and end time to meet the needs of the community; however, the total number of minutes per day, as listed above, shall be maintained.
Release Time
Kindergarten teachers will be provided one hour of release time for each four kindergarten pupils, or major fraction thereof. Release time is to be used for parent-teacher conferences.
Monday Early Dismissal Time
Monday early dismissal time may be used for parent-teacher conferences, planning, staff development (inservice), and each monthly staff meeting the principal schedules.
HOURS: FULL-TIME MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL TEACHERS
Middle and Senior High School hours are 8:00 to 4:00. Schools may vary these times if/when a scheduled instructional program begins prior to 8:00 a.m., but the total time shall be maintained.
HOURS OF WORK: OTHER RELATED PROFESSIONALS
Other related professionals refers to those who are represented by the same Collective Bargaining Agreement that represents teachers and other certified personnel and includes but is not necessarily limited to: cataloguers, educational reference librarians, text librarians, project assistants, principal investigators, researchers, and photographer technicians.
The regular schedule of hours of work for full-time is 38.75 hours per week; 7.75 hours daily, generally starting not before 7:00 a.m. and generally ending not later than 5:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays. An unpaid lunch period will be one hour unless it is shortened by mutual consent of the employee and his/her supervisor, for the purpose of adjusting the starting and/or ending times of the regularly scheduled work day.
The regular schedule of hours of work for part-time "other related professionals" shall be within the starting and ending times previously noted for full-time related professionals.
