Subject: HOURS OF WORK: CUSTODIAL & MAINTENANCE EMPLOYEES
Source(s): Collective Bargaining Agreement Between Board of Education and Dane County, Wisconsin Municipal Employees, Local 60-AFSCME-AFL-CIO (March 3, 1991 through February 27, 1993)

Full-Time Employees

All full-time employees under the jurisdiction of Building Services work a 40- hour week, excluding Sundays, per a posted schedule for each employee classification. No schedule will run more than five consecutive days -- on either a Monday through Friday or Tuesday through Saturday. Such schedules will be exclusive of building checks and emergencies beyond Employer's control.

Lunch Breaks

Employees required to start work before l0:00 a.m. daily have a 30-minute, unpaid lunch break. Those scheduled to start work at l0:00 a.m. or later have a 20-minute, mid-shift lunch break, which is part of their scheduled eight-hour shift and for which they will be paid.

During lunch breaks, employees on the second and third shifts are required to remain on the premises.

Full-time maintenance workers in the high schools who are scheduled to work before l0:00 a.m. on Saturdays have a 20-minute, mid-shift lunch break, which is part of their scheduled eight-hour shift and for which they will be paid. Again, all employees will be required to remain on the premises during this time.

Overtime

Any work performed outside an employee's regular full-time schedule must be approved in advance by the Coordinator of Custodial/Grounds Services, unless pre-authorized by a permit that allows outside groups to use District facilities after regular hours. Overtime will be paid for at the rate of one and one-half the hourly rate or, with the consent of the employer, the employee may take compensatory time off at the time and one-half rate for overtime worked, so long as the compensatory time off is taken within four pay periods following the pay period in which it was earned.

Alternatively, employer-approved compensatory time may be taken at a mutually agreed upon time when school is not in session, provided it is taken within the calendar year. Requests for

such compensatory time, to be taken during non-student days, will not be unreasonably denied.

Substitute Custodial Workers

Custodial workers who have no regularly assigned work locations will work the hours assigned them on a day-by-day basis. Their hours of work and lunch period will be those of the employee for whom they are substituting.
