Subject: HOURS OF WORK: FOOD SERVICE EMPLOYEES
Source(s): Collective Bargaining Agreement Between the Board of Education and the Madison Metropolitan School District and Dane County Wisconsin Municipal Employees Local 60-AFSCME-AFL-CIO (June 23, 1991 through June 25, 1993)

The regular schedule of hours of work for all full-time Food Service employees is 40 hours per week or eight (8) hours daily.

The employer will establish a regular schedule of hours for each employee. Such schedules are to be written and posted and cover periods of not less than one week. Any change in the schedule will be posted one week in advance of the first effective date of the changed schedule. Schedules will also be established and posted except for the weeks before school opening, prior to the school year, holiday or convention dates and prior to the end of the school year.

Breaks and Lunch Periods

All schedules will include break times and/or lunch periods, as follows:

1. Employees working less than four hours may take one paid 10-minute break.

2. Employees who work four or more hours will have two paid 10-minute breaks (which may be taken consecutively) and a paid 30-minute lunch break.

Premium Pay for Undesirable Hours

Food Service employees represented by AFSCME Local #60 - AFL-CIO will receive premium pay when undesirable hours are scheduled. Undesirable hours are defined as anytime between 6:00 p.m. of one day and 6:00 a.m. of the following day on weekdays, or anytime on Sunday or a holiday.

Overtime

Overtime is defined as any hours worked in excess of eight hours per day or 40 hours per week. Compensation for any excess hours, as just defined, will be at the rate of one-and-one-half the hourly rate.

Employees may take compensatory time off rather than overtime pay if there is mutual consent between the employee and employer, and provided the time off is taken at a mutually agreed to time, consistent with current federal and state legislation.

For approval of overtime, see Policy 7.02, page 1, sections (2) and (3); and page 2, sections (1) through (4).
