As an employer covered by the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the District is subject to recordkeeping requirements associated with wages, hours, overtime, etc. Among the requirements related to compensatory time, FLSA requires that records of the following be maintained and preserved:
1. The number of compensatory hours earned each work week, or other applicable work period, by each employee. The hours must be calculated at a rate of one and one-half hour for each overtime hour worked.
2. The number of hours of compensatory time used each work week, or other applicable period, by the employee.
3. The number of hours of compensatory time paid in cash and the date of payment.
All compensatory time must be recorded on an Overtime/Compensatory Time form, completed by either the employee or the supervisor, but always authorized and signed by the supervisor before the compensatory time will be reported onto the Payroll Services computer.
