BEREAVEMENT LEAVE

TEACHERS

Teachers may take up to five school days per year without loss of pay for each death in the immediate family, defined as the following relatives of the teacher and his/her spouse:

    1. Father, Mother or stepparent (including the father or mother of the designated family partner)
    2. Husband or Wife (including designated family partner)
    3. Child (including foster, step and grandchild and including the child, foster child, stepchild and grandchild of the designated family partner)
    4. Son or Daughter-in-law (including son or daughter-in-law of designated family partners)
    5. Brother or Sister (including brother or sister of designated family partners)
    6. Brother or Sister-in-law (including brother or sister-in-law of designated family partners)
    7. Grandfather or Grandmother (including grandfather or grandmother of designated family partners)
    8. Grandfather or Grandmother-in-law
    9. Aunt or Uncle
    10. Aunt or Uncle-in-law
    11. First Cousin
    12. Niece or Nephew

Requests for any other funeral leave must be submitted by the teacher for approval to the Department of Human Resources. In the absence of written approval, pay will be deducted for the absence.

ADMINISTRATORS

Administrators may take up to five school days per year without loss of pay for each death in the immediate family, defined as the following relatives of the administrator and his/her spouse:

    1. Father, Mother or stepparent (including the father or mother of the designated family partner)
    2. Husband or Wife (including designated family partner)
    3. Child (including foster, step and grandchild, and including the child, foster child, stepchild and grandchild of the designated family partner)
    4. Son or Daughter-in-law (including son or daughter-in-law of designated family partners)
    5. Brother or Sister (including brother or sister of designated family partners)
    6. Brother or Sister-in-law (including brother or sister-in-law of designated family partners)
    7. Grandfather or Grandmother (including grandfather or grandmother of designated family partners)
    8. Grandfather or Grandmother-in-law
    9. Aunt or Uncle
    10. Aunt or Uncle-in-law
    11. First Cousin
    12. Niece or Nephew

CUSTODIANS, FOOD SERVICE, TRADES, NON-REPRESENTED EMPLOYEES REFERENCED BY THE CUSTODIAN BARGAINING UNIT

Custodians, Food Service Workers, Trades Employees and Non-Represented Employees referenced by the Custodian Bargaining Unit may take up to five school days per year without loss of pay for each death in the immediate family, defined as the following relatives of the employee and his/her spouse:

    1. Father and Mother
    2. Husband or Wife
    3. Children
    4. Brother or Sister
    5. Grandparents
    6. Grandchildren
    7. Stepparents
    8. Stepchildren and foster children
    9. Son or Daughter-in-law
    10. Brother-in-law or Sister-in-law

Custodians, Food Service Workers, Trades Employees and Non-Represented Employees referenced by the Custodian Bargaining Unit may take one day per year charged to the employee’s accrued sick leave for each death for the following family members of the employee or spouse:

    1. Aunt or Uncle
    2. Aunt or Uncle-in-law
    3. First Cousin
    4. Niece or Nephew

Where a death occurs in the family of an employee other than the immediate family or the employee acts as a pallbearer, the Employer, in its discretion, may authorize such employee to be absent from work, which absence shall be chargeable to accrued sick leave or vacation of the employee. The use of sick leave for pallbearer duty is restricted to funeral of family other than immediate family.

EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANTS

Educational Assistants may take up to five school days per year without loss of pay for each death in the immediate family, defined as the following relatives of the employee and his/her spouse:

    1. Father or Mother
    2. Husband or Wife
    3. Children (including foster and stepchild)
    4. Son or Daughter-in-law
    5. Brother or Sister
    6. Brother or Sister-in-law
    7. Grandparents
    8. Grandmother or Grandfather-in-law
    9. Grandchildren
    10. Stepparents

Educational Assistants may take one day per year charged to the employee’s accrued sick leave for each death for the following family members of the employee or spouse:

    1. Aunt or Uncle
    2. First Cousin
    3. Niece or Nephew

CLERICAL/TECHNICAL EMPLOYEES (SEE BARGAINING UNIT) AND NON-REPRESENTED EMPLOYEES REFERENCED BY THE SEE BARGAINING UNIT

SEE Unit Employees and Non-Represented Employees Referenced by the SEE Bargaining Unit may take up to five school days per year without loss of pay for each death in the immediate family, defined as the following relatives of the employee and his/her spouse:

    1. Father or Mother
    2. Husband or Wife
    3. Children
    4. Brother or Sister
    5. Grandparents
    6. Grandchildren
    7. Stepparents
    8. Stepchildren and foster children
    9. Son or Daughter-in-law
    10. Brother or Sister-in-law

SEE Unit Employees and Non-Represented Employees Referenced by the SEE Bargaining Unit may take one day per year charged to the employee’s accrued sick leave for each death for the following family members of the employee or spouse:

    1. Aunt or Uncle
    2. Aunt or Uncle-in-law
    3. Niece or Nephew
    4. First Cousin

Where a death occurs in the family of an employee other than the immediate family or the employee acts as a pallbearer, the Employer, in its discretion, may authorize such employee to be absent from work, which absence shall be chargeable to accrued sick leave or vacation at the discretion of the employee. The use of sick leave for pallbearer duty is restricted to funeral of family other than immediate family.

SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS

Without loss of pay, the substitute teacher may take up to five school days per year for each death in the immediate family, defined as the following relatives of the employee or his/her spouse:

    1. Father, Mother or stepparent (including the father or mother of the designated family partner)
    2. Husband or Wife (including designated family partner)
    3. Child (including foster, step and grandchild and including the child, foster child, stepchild and grandchild of the designated family partner)
    4. Son or Daughter-in-law (including son or daughter-in-law of designated family partners)
    5. Brother or Sister (including brother or sister of designated family partners)
    6. Brother or Sister-in-law (including brother or sister-in-law of designated family partners)
    7. Grandfather or Grandmother (including grandfather or grandmother of designated family partners)
    8. Aunt or Uncle
    9. First Cousin
    10. Niece or Nephew
