Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-Term Care refers to a broad range of services needed by
people for an extended period of time because of a chronic illness
or disability. It usually does not include the type of care people
receive on a short-term basis following a hospitalization or an
acute illness.
Long-Term Care includes medical services, such as nursing care
or therapies. It also includes supportive services such as help
in bathing, dressing, toileting, transferring, continence, or
eating, as well as severe cognitive impairment. This care can
be provided in a variety of settings, including a person's own
home, nursing homes, an adult day care center or group living
arrangement with supportive services. Long Term Care Insurance
is a policy that helps you meet the costs of services outlined
above.
Policies may be purchased at various monthly monetary amounts
and for various duration periods. Four different plan designs
are available to customize your plan to your needs. Family members,
including spouses, designated family partners, adult children,
parents, grandparents, spouse's parents, spouse's grandparents,
step parents, brothers and sisters of the employee are eligible
to apply for the District's group plan coverage.
Long-Term Care Insurance is available to all benefit-eligible
employees. Employees pay the full amount of premium, which may
be paid through payroll deduction.
