Substitute Teachers Salary and Benefits

The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) supports its Substitute Teachers by offering very competitive wages and benefits. While individual salaries are not negotiable, the starting wage for the 2007-08 school year is $132.57 per day for certified substitutes, and $126.83 per day for permit substitutes. If a substitute is in a long-term teaching position (seven or more consecutive days in the same assignment), the rate is $172.30 per day.
