Teacher Application Process
Thank you for your interest in seeking employment as a teacher
with the Madison Metropolitan School District. The following information
is being provided to you in order for you to become familiar with
the District's screening and hiring procedures. If you should have
any questions regarding the screening and hiring process, please
contact Beth Weber,
Personnel Analyst, at (608) 663-1747, or Louise
Fosdick, Personnel Analyst, at (608) 663-1695.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Good Academic Standing
- State of Wisconsin Teaching License (5, 2 or 1-year license)*
- Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work
toward improving one's own cultural competence, i.e., valuing
difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's
skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these
areas
*Your Wisconsin teaching license must be received prior
to employment. For information about licensing you may write or
call the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI), GEF 3,
125 S. Webster St., Room 310, Madison WI 53707, (608) 266-1027,
or 266-1028.
Application Process
The teacher application requires the exact license number
(e.g. 118/42). Please list the specific WI DPI License Code. Failure
to include your specific license code could result in a delay in
processing your application. The licenses differ considerably from
state to state. We ask that you contact the licensing office at
the WI DPI to verify your out-of-state license before submitting
your application.
Please send all materials listed below to the address listed on
the front of the application:
- A completed MMSD Teacher application form* (with correct license
information)
- Your college transcripts for all completed degrees
- College credential file or a minimum of two written letters
of reference
- A cover letter and resume are optional
*Indicating "See Resume" in blanks for experience does not constitute
a complete application and may result in disqualification.
If you are student teaching at the time you apply, send the application
now and the remaining material when you graduate.
If you have any questions or need assistance in completing your
application, call the Department of Human Resources at (608) 663-1693,
or the Affirmative Action Office at (608) 663-1530.
Your application will remain on file for the academic year for
which you applied. If you are not hired, you may re-enroll. Applications
are discarded at the end of one year if you do not re-enroll with
us.
Hiring Procedures
When your application is complete, you will be sent a postcard
indicating you are "under consideration" for employment. Your area
of certification, and our need to fill specific vacancies will determine
whether you will be contacted for the next screening step - the
preliminary web-based screener.
