JUNIOR CLASS REMINDERS

You're more than half way there, Juniors!! You'll have more freedom to select your classes now. Choose carefully. Talk to your parents and guidance counselor about these choices. The work is getting more difficult. Stay organized. Keep your grades up. Try to strike a balance between school work and your other activities.

September 3, 2008: First day of school for grades 10-11-12.

September 15, 2008
Go To School Night: 6:30 p.m. A good opportunity to meet teachers and to learn expectations.

October 9-10, 2008: (Thursday evening 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.and Friday morning 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.) The 2008 Wisconsin Education Fair: Nearly 100 midwestern two and four year colleges will send representatives to this event. High school juniors and seniors and their parents/guardians are invited to browse for college information and speak directly to college reps. The location for this year's event is at Verona Area High School: 300 Richard Street, Verona, WI.

October 16, 2008
Junior Parent Night: 7:00 p.m., at Memorial, in each "Neighborhood Center": Meeting for all junior class parent/guardians to begin the post high school planning process and to personalize it to your son/daughter's needs. Topics: the variety of options; testing; admissions; scholarhips & financial aid; plus time for questions and answers. Use this meeting to find out "what needs to get done" during junior year. Also be sure to mark your calendar for the March 12, 2009 Post High School Options night.

October 18, 2008 (Saturday!)
PSAT Test: This is a practice test for the SAT college entrance exams. It is highly recommended for any student considering college. Guidance counselors will be in the Junior English classes on September 29th through October 3rd, to brief students on the test. PSAT test registration occurs October 6th through 10th in the Guidance office. "How to Prepare for the PSAT" booklets will be available at that time.

November 13th-14th, 2008
Parent Teacher Conferences (Sign-up is at Go-To-School Night on September 15. For late sign-up call the main office at 663-5990)

February 2009
Course Selection for Fall 2009: Counselors will present course selection materials and information to students during classtime during the week of February 2nd, 2009. An evening briefing will be available to parents Thursday night, February 5th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. in Theater 300. Students and parents should complete the course selection card together and return it to the social studies teacher by the February 13th deadline. Feel free to consult with your guidance counselor during this important decision making time.

February 2009 - June, 2009
ACT Tests and SAT Tests:  Don't miss the registration deadlines! Most juniors take the ACT in April or June. Many take the SAT I and/or II in May or June. You'll want the test results before completing college applications in September of your senior year. Plan ahead. Talk to your counselor, and see the ACT/SAT EXAMS portion of our guidance website.

March 2-6, 2009: AP Exam Registration. If you took an AP class this year you will want to take the AP exam.

March 2-6, 2009: Junior Conferences: All juniors will meet with their counselor in small groups to discuss post high school options and to go over their transcripts. See March 15 (below) for parent component.

March 9- March 13, 2009
Classroom Project on College/Tech School Searches: Counselors will involve all juniors in a one-day unit to become acquainted with the contents of the Career Resource Center and to complete a computerized search project to identify schools that match individual preferences. It supports your planning begun first semester and continued at the Post High School Options Night (above).

March 12, 2009: Post High School Options Night: A must night for all junior parents/guardians.
