Counselors will meet with grade 12 English classes September 10th, 11th, or 12th to brief seniors on the critical planning issues. Then each senior must be sure to check in with their counselor to confirm post-graduation plans. If you haven't taken the ACT or the SAT,or if you plan to take it or them again, be sure to register early! Get your scholarship searches started now, too. Deliver completed college applications to your counselor by December 7th.

January, 2009
Pick up your FAFSA forms, or better yet, do this form on-line. This is the lengthy form that parents complete to establish your eligibility for financial aid at any college or tech school. VERY IMPORTANT: If you wish to complete this form online be sure to first go to www.pin.ed.gov to obtain the required pin number in advance. Both the student and the parent must have a pin number once they start completing the form online. Accurate completion of this form depends upon accurate completion of the parents' income tax returns, first.  This is quite a time squeeze for some parents. You are also invited to complete our own JMM Local Scholarships application, which will be mailed to you in December.  (See the Financial Aid portion of this guidance website for details).

February, 2009
Remember to ask your counselor to send your mid-year transcripts to the colleges that will need them.

February-June, 2009
Getting ready for graduation: Listen carefully to all announcements about graduation issues. Make sure the graduation secretary (Ms. Dahmen in the Fox Neighborhood Office) has all of the information she needs. Watch deadlines for cap and gown, graduation announcements, and yearbook. Be sure you have enough credits to graduate. Do not drop a class unless you are sure you won't need it to graduate. Talk to your guidance counselor early to be sure your credits are sufficient.

March 2-6, 2009: AP Exam Registration. If you took an AP class this year you will want to take the AP exam.

March - May, 2009
You will receive letters of acceptance/rejection from colleges. Notify these colleges of your final choice as soon as possible.
