2008-2009 COUNSELOR ASSIGNMENTS

Under Memorial's "Neighborhoods" model, one counselor is assigned to each of the four neighborhoods. Any student in grades 10-11-12 simply finds out which counselor is assigned to his/her neighborhood.(See Neighborhoods list below). That one counselor will carry that student for all three years: 10-11-12.

Ninth graders are a special case. As you know, your ninth grader has been assigned to a core of three teachers (English, Social Studies, and Science), who work very closely to help all the ninth graders in that core transition well. That core team also includes one counselor and social worker who will work daily for that team . Therefore, to determine the counselor assigned to your ninth grader, look at the class schedule to see which core team he/she is assigned to. Then check the list (below) to discover which counselor is assigned.. Also be aware that the entire ninth grade team includes the above professionals, as well as the ninth grade principal, ninth grade social worker, ESL counselor, minority services coordinator and school nurse.  

Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their counselors, and to establish a good working relationship.Confidentiality is respected, and all issues are open for discussion and problem solving. Given the heavy traffic traffic that is typical in the Student Services office, students wanting to speak with their counselor are encouraged to make an appointment by using the appointment book that is on the front counter of the Student Services Office. Choose a meeting time that will not cause class time to be missed; counselors cannot excuse students who come during class time without written teacher permission.
Counselors are available from 8:00 AM until 4:00 PM.
