Youth Apprenticeship is a rigorous one or two-year program that combines academic and technical classroom instruction with mentored on-the-job learning for high school students. Hands-on-learning at the job site is combined with classroom instruction to help students make the connection between school and the world of work. The program is administered by the Governor's Workbased Learning Board in partnership with the Department of Public Instruction, the Wisconsin Technical College System, the University of Wisconsin System, Wisconsin businesses, industry and labor associations and local schools and employers.
Dane County currently has eleven different Youth Apprenticeship opportunities. They include Architecture, Automotive Technician, Biotechnology, Finance, Health Services, Info Technology, Manufacturing, Printing & Graphic Arts, Production Agriculture, Tourism, and Welding. Details on these programs can be viewed at the DANE COUNTY CONSORTIUM website. Brochures on these programs are available in Memorial High School's Career Resource Center.
