
Memorial High School Physical Education
Six semesters of Physical Educuation(1 1/2 credits) plus one semester of Health Education
are required. Beginning with the 1997-1998 school year, ALL Physical Education classes
will be traditionally graded (A thru F). By the end of the third week of each semester,
parents will decide wether or not this grade will be counted as part of their student's Grade
Point Average (GPA).
Core Program
The core curriculum is required of all 9th and 10th graders and is based on the
philopsophy that a physically educated student needs the experience of a wide varieth of
activities before the junior year. As a result, no student will be able to take an elective
course without first completing the CORE program.

Prerequisite: None
The emphasis of this course is on developing and improving
skills in several team sports and individual activities. Units include the following activities:
tennis, volleyball, basketball and gymnastics. This class meets three days per week for one
semester and may only be taken once for credit.
- Health
- The health course is designed to help students improve their health knowledge and
attitudes in ways that will facilitate personal decision making and positive health
behaviors. The course meets daily for one semester and aprovides classroom and acitivity
experiences. Course content will include units on physical health, including fitness,
nutrition, mental and emotional health, human sexuality, personal safety and emergency
care, alcolhol and other drugs. The activity sessions may include jogging, cycling,
walking, swimming and weight training designed to reinforce classroom presentions.

Prerequisite: None
Eight units, each lasting four to six weeks, are the basis for this
course, the activities included are as follows: touch football,
basketball, volleyball, soccer, dance, floor hockey and softball. this
course meets daily for one semester and may only be taken once for
credit.
