Background/Experience:
Joe Gothard returns for his first year as principal at La Follette High school. Mr. Gothard is no stranger to La Follette. He is a 1989 graduate and a former Science teacher, Football and Basketball coach and Dean of Students. Gothard left in 2005 to become the principal at Akira R. Toki Middle School in Madison. He received his B.S. from Edgewood College with a Major in Biology and Minor in Secondary Education. He also received his M.A. in Educational Administration from Edgewood. Gothard believes strongly in building a community school that reinforces the power of relationships by challenging all to give their best effort at all times while working together. Mr. Gothard credits many for his ongoing development as an educator including his middle school teacher Ms. Lois
Bell and high school biology teacher the late Mr. Roger Hujik. |

Chad
Wiese

Background/Experience:
Chad Wiese is returning for his second year at La Fallotte as the 11th grade
Dean of Students.
Mr. Wiese comes from Madison East High school where he taught science for
seven years. He did the majority of his undergraduate work at the UW-Madison and received his science certification in 1998 from UW-Whitewater. He currently is finishing his Master’s Degree in Instructional Design and Technology from Emporia State University. He will also be
returning as the Head Coach for the football team. Mr. Wiese believes a great education is the key to each person’s success in life. We as educators hold that key.

Kelly Lynaugh

Background/Experience:
Ms. Lynaugh is in her 10th year as associate principal for La Follette High School. Her background is rich with a history
and experience as a special education teacher at Whitehorse Middle School and Gompers Middle School. As a lifelong resident of Madison, she has both her Bachelors of Science (special and regular education) and Masters Degrees
(educational administration) from UW-Madison. Ms. Lynaugh's philosophy
of education is that every student matters and has the right to believe in themselves.

Mikki
Smith

Background/Experience:
Mikki Smith’s is also returning for her second year as an administrator at La Follette. She graduated from La Follette in 1984. Prior to coming to La Follette Ms. Smith was an assistant principal at Sun Prairie High School and West Ms. Smith has a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Maryland and an M.A. in Counseling from Hampton University. She received her administrative certification in 1999 from the UW-Madison. She is currently working on her doctorate in educational administration from the UW-Madison. Ms. Smith is a first lieutenant in the Army National Guard. Ms. Smith strongly believes that students do better if they are academically, socially and emotionally engaged. We as educators have a responsibility to foster their engagement by creating a community where they feel a sense of belonging.

Steve
Hoffman

Background/Experience:
Steve Hoffman is returning for his third year at La Follette High School.
He was also an Assistant Principal at East High School
and the Interim Principal at Black Hawk Middle School before coming
to La Follette in July, 2004. Mr Hoffman went to high school in
Oswego, IL. He earned a B.S. in Engineering and an M.S. in Music
Education from the University of Illinois. His recent graduate study
has been at UW-Madison. He was a music teacher in Lombard, IL and
Champaign, IL prior to moving to Madison. Mr. Hoffman believes
strongly in the importance of education to individuals, their
community and to the world. His passions include music, drama,
literature, athletics, and providing opportunities for young people
to learn and achieve.

Jim
Pliner

Background/Experience:
Jim Pliner was a product of the Madison Schools. Mr. Pliner
graduated from Madison East High school in 1985. In 1989 he graduated
with a B.S. in Education from UW-Madison. He also recently earned a
Master’s Degree in Education and Professional Development from UW-La
Crosse. He is currently working toward his Educational Administration
License at Edgewood College. His teaching experience includes a year
at Oaklawn Academy, 7 years at Elvehjem Elementary and 7 years at
Sennett Middle School. He served as Athletic Director at LHS for 3
years and is currently the Dean of Students. He has been a baseball
coach at La Follette for 17 years including 13 as the Varsity Head
Coach. Coach Pliner believes that positive relationships are key to
building a strong learning community that values difference and
supports achievement for all students. |
