An Improvisational Experience
Fade to Black is an improvisational acting group of students from Madison’s LaFollette and West High Schools. Students develop and perform short skits about social issues pertinent to today’s teens. The skits stop at a critical decision point. Facilitators then process the topic with the audience, allowing audience members to ask questions of the characters and of the actors themselves.
Valuable skills imparted include critical thinking, articulation of issues and opinions, group discussion and processing, and individual and group decision-making. Through careful consideration of the issues presented, students are able to access and identify their own thoughts and core values, assisting them in making personal decisions for critical life issues.
