Many college athletic programs are regulated by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The NCAA has three membership divisions -- Division I, Division II, and Division III. College institutions are members of one or another division according to the size and scope of their athletic programs and whether they provide athletic scholarships. If you are planning to enroll in college and you wish to participate in Division I or Division II athletics, you must be certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse was established by the NCAA member institutions in January, 1993 to ensure consistent application of NCAA initial-eligibility requirements. To be certified by NCAA, you must complete the NCAA Clearinghouse Initial Eligibility form, online. This information can also be found in the brochure entitled, "NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete". Also be sure to explore the NCAA website listed below. A new
site,
scholarshiphelp.org helps with the process of winning athletic scholarships.
It also links you to some other useful sites, such as:
collegesportsscholarships.com, created by an athlete and his dad to help
other athletes understand the scholarship process. It’s all free and it looks
like a good starting point. Also, The
Arkansas Scholarship Connection, provides a lot of good, free information.
