MINORITY SERVICES COORDINATOR--
Michele Olson  204-3661

Our minority services coordinator is available to minority students and parents to help with academic, social, and personal concerns. She is available and responsible for:

  • Coordinating student support services (e.g. The People program, commonwealth, youth mentoring program, urban league, NAACP & UW Systems)
  • Advising & participating in diversity groups within the school & community
  • Collecting & dispensing resources for minority students
  • Attending team meetings and participating in BIT meetings
  • Confer with teachers, staff & parents regarding student’s classroom performance
  • Individual crisis intervention
  • Provide support & resources for minority families
AOD (alcohol and other drug) Coordinator & Social Worker--Stephanie Barchus 204-3636

Our AOD coordinator is available to help students and parents with alcohol and drug use/abuse concerns.  She is involved in:

  • Administering screeners to evaluate students’ drug or alcohol use
  • Referring students and families to resources in the community
  • Working with the community & school staff to plan safe/substance free activities for students (e.g. post-prom, dances, etc.), & other strategies to promote non-use
  • Attending team meetings and participating in BIT meetings
  • Facilitating support groups for students
  • Providing prevention resources to parents through parent newsletter &/or web page
  • Establishing consistent AOD procedures across MMSD (e.g. athletic code & AOD curriculum)
NURSE--Jill Aruguete-Siewer   204-3621
NURSE ASSISTANT--Terry Parker 204-3622

Our school nurse provides health services to students and families.  She promotes healthy decision making during the school day.  Other areas of her involvement include:

  • Identifying and referring students at-risk for specific health needs, through screening assessment
  • Dispensing medication when necessary
  • Maintain student health records
  • Co-facilitate health education groups
  • Act as a liaison between school, home, and the medical community
  • Attending team meetings and participating in BIT meetings
