Youth Options Program
Youth Options Program
The Youth Options Program permits any 11th or 12th grade student to attend a Wisconsin institution of higher education for the purpose of taking one non-sectarian course. The Madison Metropolitan School District (MMSD) is required to pay for the course if no comparable course is offered in any MMSD high school and if the course is approved for high school credit. UW-Madison usually limits students to one course per semester and the student must have at least a 3.0 (B) grade point average (GPA) to meet U.W. Madison standards for enrollment as a special student. Youth options students will be admitted as University special students and must also complete the UW Special Student Application. Similar options are available through MATC and Edgewood College.
By March 1st for the Fall semester and by October 1st for the spring semester, students must notify the school board of their intention to participate in the program. The application for participation must arrive in the office of the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction by the deadline dates.
The School Board will notify the student if the course is approved for high school credit.
Applications and additional information may be obtained in the Guidance Office.
