LOCAL SCHOLARSHIP OPPORTUNITY

December 2007

Seniors, Parents and Guardians:

Each year, La Follette High School seniors have the opportunity to apply for local scholarships that are generously donated by local groups, organizations and families. The La Follette Scholarship Committee is responsible for reviewing the applications and for awarding the scholarships to students. Every year, there are more deserving students than scholarships. However, it is important to remember that each scholarship is unique in its criteria. Most scholarships focus on one or more of the following: academic achievement, leadership, school/community service, financial need, personal or family hardship and/or unique circumstances (illness or disability). Not all scholarships are based on academic achievements. All students planning on attending a 2 year or 4 year program are encouraged to apply who meet the following criteria:
  • Students must have at least 6.5 credits scheduled for the school year. Early graduates should talk with their counselors if interested.
  • Students must complete and submit a scholarship application by January 25, 2008 and no later than 4:00 pm to the La Follette student services office (guidance). LATE APPLICATIONS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED
  • Students must be willing to attend the Senior Awards Convocation Night on May 21, 2008 if selected for scholarship.

Information on how to apply is available in the student services office starting on December 19 and will also be available at the Financial Aid Night on January 9 or online HERE.

If you have questions or need help with the application, please see your counselor. Other questions or comments can be directed to me at 608-204-3665 or jacker@madison.k12.wi.us.

Thank you and good luck!

  • Wednesday, January 30th
  • 7 p.m. in the auditorium

College and career planning is an important and exciting time in the life of a junior and his/her family. Planning for the future is one of the most important services the school provides. This year the 2008 Junior Parent/Guardian Post-High School Planning Night is Wednesday, January 30. The evening will begin at 7 p.m. and will be held in the La Follette High School Auditorium. Parents will receive information about 4 year colleges/universities, MATC, apprenticeships, military, world-of-work. A detailed time-line, students' transcripts, college catalogues, and much more will be given to every parent.

We look forward to meeting with all junior parents on Jan. 30!
