Three outings for soil samples. The first was a practice run at Lincoln School. The middle school students from River Crossing Charter School (Portage, WI) came over to guide us in our investigation. They met up with us again one week later at the Pothole, the wetland we study about 10 miles south of Madison. The last soil investigation was one month later at Muir Woods on campus, with our college buddies. Students saw three very different sets of soils and compared horizons.
Our fall insect study included the kindergarten-first grade classroom of Carolyn Konkol and their investigation of the Monarch butterflies and their life cycle.
Some of these pictures are from the Pothole, where we were working on mapping and soil sampling in high grasses, low grasses area as well as pond-side, although the pond was completely dried up!
Flagged areas are sites where, in the fall, we looked for insects in Muir Woods.
