WELCOME BACK TO SCHOOL!

August 25, 2005

Dear K/1 Open Classroom Families:

Hello everyone! I hope you have all had a wonderful summer! Once we got the news in late June that there would indeed be an Open Classroom this coming year, we were all finally able to relax and start to enjoy the summer.

I took a great trip to Oregon with my husband Dan. We got to see the Pacific Ocean, the giant Coastal Redwoods, Crater Lake and many other wonderful things. I also went camping a lot, enjoyed seeing my brother's bands, Natty Nation and dumate, and had fun with friends and family. Now though, I am ready to get back into the swing of things and to see my kiddos everyday again.

I have already begun to put our room back together because school is just around the corner! Kirk, Shary and Randy did a wonderful job cleaning our room and I am having fun changing the room to make it different from last year.

I'm really looking forward to this coming year and have been busy thinking and planning all summer. I can't wait to see the kids that are returning and get to know the new kids as well! I have enclosed a school supply list, and a student and parent questionnaire.

Please bring your supplies and the questionnaires the 1st day of school. I will be in the classroom setting things up the week before school starts and you are welcome to stop by for a short visit then if you would like.

Also, it is time to start thinking about Ready-Set-Go conferences. Due to the failure of the referenda, there are not supposed to be any conferences this year. However, I feel that this is a very important time to establish our relationship and expectations for the year. The other OC teachers and myself are considering having a night when families can come into the classroom and we can have these types of conversations. This will most likely be the 2nd or 3rd week of school. I will let you know when this will be once school has started.

Another important date to remember is the day for Lincoln registration. It will be the day before our potluck on Monday, August 22, anytime between 9:00 - 1:00 or 4:00 - 6:00.

Make sure to stop by Lincoln at some point that day to register. If you can't come at that time, please try and come in before the first day of school to register then.

Please remember that the first day of school is on a Thursday this year. The schedule for the first week will be:
Thursday, September 1, 8:30-1:45, Friday, September 2, 8:30-1:45.

Well, I look forward to seeing you all again. Enjoy the last few days of summer and I can't wait to hear about YOUR adventures! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call me: Home 236-0644, School 204-4938.

Peace & Love,

Carolyn Konkol
