Pumice, basalt, quartz, granite, and some of the earth's crust is made of igneous rock.
Basalt is an igneous rock that forms when lava cools quickly. People must dig below the earth to get granite. Some igneous rocks are 3.6 billion years old!
Five common forms are magma, sand, pumice, granite, and the Devil's Tower. There are over 600 different kinds of igneous rock!

Hi! Our names are Edwin, Maurice, Maya, and Megan. We're going to tell you about sedimentary rocks.
How are sedimentary rocks formed? Well, sedimentary rocks are made from animals and plants that have died. They have been tightly pressed with lots of pressure for many years.
How many layers does the Earth have? The Earth has 4 layers. The sedimentary rocks are found on the Earth's surface.
How old are some sedimentary rocks? Some sedimentary rocks are 3.5 billion years old!
Now we will tell you five common forms of sedimentary: Shale - some shale is very weak; Sediment is very tiny bits of sand, rocks, shells and dirt; Limestone is used to make cement.
Sandstone can form pretty canyons. Coal has rainbows on it when the sun shines on it.
That's all we learned about sedimentary rocks.

Metamorphic means 'change very often'. Very hot water can change some rock into metamorphic rock.
Metamorphic rock can be found on the Earth's crust. Metamorphic rocks have been around for thousands of years.
Some of the oldest rocks known are metamorphic rocks. Here are some different kinds: Talc, Magma, and Basalt.
The metamorphic mineral Graphite is used as lead in pencils!
Metamorphic rock can be used in many different ways.

How are fossils formed?
Sometimes animals drank water covering a tar pit and would get stuck in the tar and die and become fossils. Fossils are remains of plants or animals. Pressure forms a fossil with help from sediment.
This can happen in places where the earth is frozen year round, or in places that are very hot and dry.
Any animal or plant can leave a mark in sedimentary rock and make a mold in a couple hundred years. the minerals harden and take the plant or animal's shape.
What Earth layer?
Scientists work slowly and use special tools to dig fossils from the earth. Fossils are found all around the Earth. Scientists have found wooly mammoths buried in ice.
Many mammoths still have their skin and hair.
Fossils are found in the Earth's crust in sedimentary rock.
How old are fossils?
Fossils can be up to 4.6 billion years old. Bacteria are the oldest fossils. Fish and other sea animals can be 245 to 600 million years old. Mammals and humans are 66 million years old and still being formed today.
Many plant and animal fossils are still being made today.
