Billie Wind is the main character in the bookThe Talking Earth. Billie is a 13 year old girl who belongs to a Seminole tribe in Florida, near the Everglades.
When Billie's sister, Mary Wind, tells the Council that Billie is a doubter, they send her to the Everglades to better her understanding of their beliefs. ~ Joe

This is Cootchobee. He is a panther. He is one of the main characters in the book The Talking Earth.
Cootchobee becomes Billie Wind's friend while she is in the Everglades. Billie Wind found him and took care of him after his mom was killed by an alligator.
Towards the end of the book, Coootchobee's father comes and takes him by grabbing him in his mouth. ~ Selina

This is a drawing of Petang. Petang is an otter in The Talking Earth.
The main character, Billie Wind, found Petang while she was on punishment.
Petang is a spunky, funny little animal. This animal helps Billie Wind get fish to eat.
They quickly become friends. I recommend this book to anyone who likes lots of excitement! ~ Rae

This is the Everglades. I drew a picture of the Everglades because it is the setting in the book The Talking Earth.
The Everglades are located in Florida. It is a large, swampy area that is full of a variety of plants and animals.
The main character, Billie Wind, had to survive in the Everglades while on punishment. ~ Nate

She comes across an alligator that bites her dugout.
Billie Wind stabs at the alligator with her spear and it swims away.
Notice all the variety of animals and plants that Billie Wind might have seen in the Everglades. ~ William

This is a scene from The Talking Earth. This drawing is of Billie Wind's houseboat.
She made the houseboat after she got stranded in the Everglades. This boat was important to her because is gave her shelter during storms.
She was able to sleep on her boat because she had her hammock. She used her spear and net to catch fish, and she was able to cook on the boat, too.~ Natalie
