Vacancies
Vacancies on the BOARD are filled by appointments by the remaining members of the
BOARD. Such appointee(s) shall hold office until a successor is elected and takes
office.

s. 120.73(1)
- The SUPERINTENDENT or her/his designee will place a notice in the Wisconsin
State Journal for seven (7) consecutive days indicating that:
- The BOARD will appoint an individual to fill the vacant seat of a member
of the BOARD.
- To be eligible, a candidate must be at least 18 years of age and reside
within the Madison Metropolitan School District.
- The individual appointed will serve until a successor is elected and takes
office under s. 120.06(4), 17.26(1), 120.42(2), 120.42(3).
- Individuals interested in filling the vacancy can do so by writing a letter of
interest to the PRESIDENT OF THE BOARD in care of the SUPER-
INTENDENT or her/his designee at the Administration Building, 545 West
Dayton Street, Madison, Wisconsin 53703.
- To be considered, a candidate must file a letter of interest. The letter of
interest should contain: (1) the candidate's name; (2) the candidate's
address; (3) the candidate's telephone number; (4) a statement as to what
qualities the candidate will bring to the Board of Education that will
enhance the Board's decision making; (5) a statement as to what the
candidate perceives as three critical issues/problems facing the District
and how the candidate proposes to address/resolve these issues/
problems; (6) a statement that includes any other information that the
candidate deems appropriate and/or relevant; (7) letters of interest should
be limited to a total of 700 words or less.
- A motion will be made for the appointment of an individual to the position. If the
motion fails, either for want of a second or for lack of a majority vote, the process
shall be repeated until a candidate has received four votes or a majority of the
votes from Board members who are present and voting.
- The person so appointed shall then execute the oath of office and be seated on
the BOARD.
