Public Records
It is the POLICY of the Madison Metropolitan School District BOARD to allow persons to have access to public records maintained by the School District in accordance with its POLICIES and implementing PROCEDURES, and in accordance with the law.
The ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS SERVICES is designated as the Legal Custodian of records for the Madison Metropolitan School District.
The DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES is designated as the Deputy Legal Custodian for the ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS.
The ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS SERVICES, shall safely keep and preserve records of the BOARD and shall have full legal power to render decisions and carry out duties related to such public records maintained by the Madison School District. The Legal Custodian may deny access to records only in accordance with the law.

Public Records
Public records may be inspected, copied and/or abstracted at any time during established Madison Metropolitan School District office hours, which are 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. Requests for information shall be honored as soon as practicable and without delay or the Legal Custodian or Deputy Legal Custodian shall deny the request in whole or in part and give the reasons therefor. The BOARD has established fees and a list of such fees shall be made available at the Office of the ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT FOR BUSINESS SERVICES, the Office of Public Information, and the Office of the DIRECTOR OF HUMAN RESOURCES.
The BOARD has established a fee schedule relative to the reproduction cost for public records. Should the reproduction cost be in excess of $5.00, the person requesting the copy shall pay to the Legal Custodian or her/his deputy or designee the entire amount of the cost prior to such document or pages being copied and/or given to the person making the request.
A notice explaining the BOARD'S public records POLICY and the fee schedule shall be displayed in the principal's office of every school and in the Administration Building at 545 West Dayton Street, Madison, Wisconsin, in Room 100 (Public Information Office), Room 109 (Instructional Division), Room 114 (Office for Business Services), Room 133 (Office of Human Resources) and Room 104 (Office of Legal Services).
