Instruction

Closing School - Weather

School shall remain open during or after snow storms or other inclement weather unless severe and immediate danger is probable.

  1. The basic objective will be to conduct school during and after snow storms or other inclement weather.
  2. Starting time may be delayed, but every effort will be made to start at the regular time.
  3. Administrative STAFF will review the weather conditions. Administrative STAFF will check with the bus companies, the Police Department, the City of Madison Street Department, and the National Weather Service. The SUPERINTENDENT will contact the PRESIDENT of the BOARD. If the opening of schools is going to be delayed or if schools are going to be closed, every attempt will be made by the District to contact radio and television stations by 6:30 a.m.
  4. The decision to close schools is made by the SUPERINTENDENT of SCHOOLS.
  5. All employees will be expected to report at the times designated by their immediate supervisor (i.e., Head Custodian, Principal, Directors, etc.)
    1. Certified personnel: Reporting to work, as well as the consequences for either failing to report to work or failing to report to work on time, shall be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
    2. Classified personnel: Reporting to work, as well as the consequences for either failing to report to work or failing to report to work on time, shall be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
  6. Calls for sick leave will be examined carefully. It is assumed that an employee is within proper distance to report for work at the proper time and is responsible for reporting.
  7. School will not be dismissed during the middle of the day or early in the afternoon unless severe and immediate danger is probable.
