Textbook Fines

Discretion governs the assessment of fines for lost or damaged textbooks. The construction of the book, the condition of the book, and the nature of the loss or damage is to be taken into account. Such discretion applies to the following fine schedules:

Lost Books and Books Damaged Beyond Repair

Year of Use:Fine:
1st100% of the cost price of the book at the time of purchase
2nd80% of the cost price of the book at the time of purchase
3rd60% of the cost price of the book at the time of purchase
4th40% of the cost price of the book at the time of purchase
5th and after20% of the cost price of the book at the time of purchase

Book Damage

Major Damage
The book needs to be rebound. The book cover has been removed, or the binding is damaged so that rebinding is necessary for continued use of the book. The fine is:

40% of the price of the book at the time of purchase, regardless of the age of the book;

Minimum Fine = $1.00.

Minor Damage
Torn pages, soiled pages, creased pages, excessive writing or marking in or on the book. The fine is:

20% of the price of the book at the time of purchase;

Minimum Fine = $1.00.
