Locker Inspections
The provision of lockers to pupils is a privilege granted by the BOARD. The BOARD
retains ownership and possessory control of all pupil lockers. Therefore, the
PRINCIPAL of a school and/or his/her designee shall have the right to inspect pupil
lockers.

Locker Inspections
- The assignment of lockers to pupils is a responsibility of the PRINCIPAL or
her/his designee.
- The PRINCIPAL and/or his/her designee retains the right to inspect any
locker or lockers as may be necessary or appropriate. This right shall be
exercised if and when, in the judgment of the PRINCIPAL, there may be
reasonable suspicion to believe that a locker may be used to conceal
anything illegal or evidence of a violation of school rules or Board Policy.
- Whenever practicable, a student shall be notified before or be present
when her/his locker is being inspected.
- A pupil shall be required to open any personal belongings in a locker at
the request of the PRINCIPAL.
- This Policy and Procedure shall be duplicated in every published handbook or
set of regulations for the conduct of pupils in the Madison Metropolitan School
District.
