The physical well being of every student, visitor, staff member, and employee will be a primary consideration in every school activity, including the designing of facilities, the planning for school functions, or the performance of a task.

All employees of the Madison Metropolitan School District must accept responsibility for the safety of all students and of each other in the conduct of their duties.

PROCEDUREWELFARE 4147
Pupils/Employees

Safety

All Madison Metropolitan School District employees who conduct activities/programs that use District facilities will follow the District Emergency Procedures in taking immediate and effective action in cases of sudden illness or injury from accidents to pupils or employees occurring on school premises or at school sponsored functions.

Employees or non-staff activity leaders who assume or are assigned the responsibility for the performance of others are responsible for a safe environment for their clients. Should an accident occur, this responsibility includes completing the Accident Report Form, determining the cause of the accident, and, if appropriate, initiating corrective action to eliminate or protect against any hazards found to exist.

To assist in the fulfillment of this POLICY of accident prevention, it is urged that the advice of any committee including the Safety Committees and the services of any District employee, including the District's SAFETY COORDINATOR and other professional staff shall be used at every opportunity. High-hazard areas (e.g., swimming pools, art rooms, stages, vocational education shops, science labs, playgrounds) warrant extraordinary safety measures that are addressed in individual protocols.
