Multiculturalism in Madison Metropolitan School District Publications

It is the POLICY of the Madison Metropolitan School District to insure that all its publications reflect the diversity of groups in the Madison community and schools, or when appropriate, in United States society as a whole.

Multiculturalism in Madison Metropolitan School District Publications

Any PRINCIPAL or other ADMINISTRATOR responsible for the publication of print or non print materials for the Madison Metropolitan School District shall review such materials for their multicultural content, using as a guide the following:

  1. The material, in its illustrations, logo, text, etc., should represent the pluralistic nature of our society, including persons from a variety of racial/cultural backgrounds, of several age groups and of both sexes, as well as those with disabling conditions.
  2. The material should avoid simplistic or stereotyped representations of people or groups.
  3. The material, in its text, should avoid sexist and racist language and inferences.

If further assistance is needed, after the initial review and before publication, the Administrator who is in charge of diversity should be contacted for additional consultation and evaluation.
