Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam (WKCE)

These state sponsored assessments have been administered since the 1993-1994 school year to students in Grades 8 and 10. Fourth grade students have performed since the 1995-1996 school year.  Results are reported as the National Percentile of the Normal Curve Equivalent.  A percentile rank of 50 is considered average.

Beginning in 1997-1998, the Department of Public Instruction has reported WKCE results by Proficiency Level.  Decisions regarding where to place the three cut points between the four proficiency levels was determined by a consensus process conducted with Wisconsin teachers, administrators, and parents and facilitated by the Department of Public Instruction and the test contractor.  The cut points are associated with content area scale scores.

The assessments consist of knowledge and skills in Reading/Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Studies.  A writing component is also included.  Due to discrepancies in scoring the Writing Sample, results are not included in the following tables.
