Early Childhood Psychological and Emotional Development Services

Home Visitation Program

The Dane County Parent Council (DCPC) provides home visitation/advocacy to 80 parents of infants, toddlers and pre-school children in the South Madison, Broadway- Simpson, and Allied Drive areas. This initiative makes mental health consultation available for children with disruptive behaviors, and serves parents who are not income eligible for the Early Head Start program.

Alternative Intervention Pre-School Program

The DCPC provides an alternative program for children ages 3 - 5 (and their families) who display serious difficulties with self-regulation and social interaction. This includes the availability of mental health consulting for staff support and counsel.

Professional Development for Child Care Providers

A MMSD consultant works with a team of staff from The City of Madison, the UW-Extension and the UW- Madison Child Development Center to teach child care providers how to introduce and/or improve use of language and literacy development in their programs

Books and Materials to Pre-Schoolers

MMSD provides books to newborns as part of the "Babies Books and Bonding" project, in cooperation with Smart Start, and will continue to give a book and educational materials to preschoolers on their birthdays until they enter school.

Quality Child Care Community Development Initiative

MMSD along with other partners (City of Madison,Dane County Department of Human Services, other school districts, United Way of Dane County) offers a low-cost, high-quality child care in under-served areas of the city.
