| Practice your RECORDER
Lose your Music? Print out new copies or read off screen. click here The Rockin' Recorder sheets ask students to circle the steps or skips. A step is when notes go from a line to the next space or a space to the next line (so it actually looks like it is going up or down the stairs). A skip is when the notes go from one line to the next line or one space to the next space (as if you were skipping a step on the stairs up or down). A leap is anything bigger than a skip. It can go from a line to a space or another line, or from a space to a line or another space...just bigger than a skip. As if you were "leaping" over more than one stair.
Students in grades 3 - 5 use recorders during music for part of the year. They are a wonderful lead in to a woodwind instrument. Students can purchase recorders through the school (a nice quality instrument for $5 which includes a nice zippered case!) or borrow a school recorder at no cost to your family. If you do want to purchase a recorder outside of school, please be sure you are paying at least $5 for the recorder or it may be more like a "toy" rather than an instrument. The cheap dollar store recorders are difficult to get a good sound and can be frustrating for students. Peripole (what we sell), Yamaha and Tudor make nice recorders.
