Business Education Description

Definition

Business Education is the acquisition and application of the unique set of knowledge and skills used in commercial or industrial establishments.

Purpose

Business Education develops an understanding of business, technology, and economic concepts. It develops opportunities for application of basic academic skills, thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. Its study contributes to a student becoming a productive worker, an economically successful entrepreneur, and keen consumer.

Characteristics

Business Education directly addresses the acquisition, organization, distribution, and efficient use of information; interpersonal relationship skills; and an understanding of the intents and purposes of using technology.

A Business Education student is a 9th - 12th grade student enrolled in one or more Business courses. Characteristics of this student include, but are not limited to, a general interest in Business, a career interest or objective in Business, or an interest in a related field enhanced through Business skills. The Business student may seek employment or post-secondary education after high school.

Student achievement is assessed through successful completion of work-related competencies identified in Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Skills Certificate Program documents and listed herein as benchmark indicators. Said competencies can be evaluated on a job site (work-based), or in a school setting (school-based). All the competencies relate to one or more of the SCANS competencies and foundation skills.
