The KIDS Report is a biweekly publication produced by K-12 students as a resource to other K-12 students. It is an ongoing, cooperative effort of 15 classrooms from around the world. Teachers assist and provide support; however, students select, evaluate and annotate all resources included in every issue of the KIDS Report.
The KIDS Report is published with a generous grant from John and Tashia Morgridge and with the support of the General Library System of the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
This issue of KIDS, dated March 28, 2000, was written and produced by Janet Amann's class at North Woods Elementary School in La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Southern Quilting
http://xroads.virginia.edu/~UG97/quilt/opening.html
The large quilt picture catches your attention right away on this site. Beneath the quilt is a lot of information about the history of quilts in America. From the Table of Contents you can find information about the history of African American quilts and an interesting part about seven different quilters and the types of quilts they make. The font size is small and the reading level is for upper grade students, but the information about the history and styles of quilting is very informative. |

Beginner's Corner
http://www.nmia.com/~mgdesign/qor/begin/begin.htm
Do you need some tips on getting started with quilting? Have you heard of the word "applique?" Do you know what Prairie Points are? The Beginner's Corner is a site where you can find out quilting terms, tools, ideas, patterns and examples to help explain everything about quilting. The page is easy to navigate. It is part of a useful larger site -- Quilters Online Resource. |

A Quilter By Design
http://www.his.com/~queenb/
This site was created by a quilter. She shows you many of her quilts in the Gallery and she tells stories about some of the quilts. The quilt pictures load quickly and are very colorful. The author includes original sample patterns that she has for sale, but there are many other free patterns to view and download. There are links to many other quilting sites. |

Quilting With Children
http://thecraftstudio.com/qwc/
This site has a lot of information about quilting for both teachers and students. My favorite part is the Techniques and Resources part. It shows good quilt patterns for children and you can learn how to sew if you don't know how. I also liked this site because it shows many different kinds of quilts that other students my age have made. It was easy to select where to go on this site and I think you will enjoy it. |

A Quilter's Coloring Book
http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Acres/6982/blocks.html
You can make your own paper or computer graphics quilt from this site. The author of the page suggests that you print it out and color in your quilt pattern or download it into a paint program. You can choose from many quilt patterns and see how that pattern looks in three different ways. We found out that this page is fun to experiment with. |

America Quilts
http://www.pbs.org/americaquilts/meet/index.html
This site lets you see quilt projects made by some American quilters. Click on the small pictures to see a larger version of their quilts. Another interesting part of this site is Quilts in the Classroom. You can look at a quilt made by some students in Madison, Wisconsin. If you think you know a lot about quilts, there is an online quilt quiz. There are also a lot of links from this site. The tips part wasn't real great. |

The Quiltmaker's Gift
http://www.quiltmakersgift.com/index.htm
The Quiltmaker's Gift is a book written by Jeff Brumbeau. It is the story of a quiltmaker and a king. The illustrations are full of quilt designs and quilt blocks. This site is a very colorful and fun site about the book, the illustrator, and quilting. There are many quilting links listed. |
