Steps in Developing a Report, Annotation Expectations

Preparing and sending your report:

Participants will need to send a "text-only" version of the report regardless of what other versions of the report (or graphics) they are sending. Specifications for sending a text-only version and specifications for sending additional versions/graphics are listed below. Please send your report by the prescribed deadline so that there is time to prepare it prior to sending it out on the electronic mailing list and posting it on the Web site.

[Required] Send a text-only version of the report.

  • Copy report and paste into the body of your email to Barb Spitz at . Please put "KIDS Report" somewhere in the subject line. In addition, you can send a text-only version of the report as an attachment.
  • Please include coordinating teacher's name and email, as well as the name and location of the school at the top of each report.

[Optional] Send graphics for the report in either GIF or JPEG formats.

  • Email GIF or JPEG graphics as attachments to Barb Spitz at .
  • Original or scanned artwork can also be mailed via US mail to Barb Spitz at the address listed below.
  • Artwork, mark up, and text enhancements will be created by staff at the General Library System if these are not specified by the report authors.

[Optional] Send an HTML (marked up) version of the report using the KIDS Report HTML template.

  • This mark up will be used in the actual report as it follows the standards established by the site's webmaster. A copy of this template will be sent as an email attachment to all participants via the teachers' listserv.
  • Insert your text between all double exclamation points in the template.
    Example: !!Teacher's name!!
  • Template provides six annotation samples; copy these and insert your own text for as many annotations as you have in your report.
  • Remove all double exclamation points (can do a search and replace).
  • Send HTML version, in addition to text-only version.

[Optional] Send an HTML version using an HTML editor.

  • This mark up will not be used in the report but will serve as a way to show the webmaster how the authors would like their report to appear.
  • Send HTML version, in addition to the required text-only version.
