Lesson Plan

Brainstorm the various attributes of students in the class. What makes them unique? What are their hidden talents, likes and dislikes? Have students work with a partner to describe how they are alike and how they are different. Some schools have reading buddies (intermediate and primary) and have completed this with their buddy. The older student records and keys in the information.

Step by Step…

Step 1 Brainstorm all the ways in which you and your partner are alike and different.
Step 2 Record the ideas. Be creative and make your paragraphs interesting. Give examples. Let people hear your voice.
Step 3 Edit your work. Use the thesaurus to help with word choice.
Step 4

Take a picture of the partners with a digital camera and add to the page. It can be interesting and fun to use just the faces and draw cartoon bodies. Encourage students to think about the design principles. How do they want the material to be presented? Look at other printed material for ideas.

Step 5 Create a slide show. (Sometimes it is useful to present work in the form of a slide show as it saves on the cost of ink.) Read the story fluently and record into the computer. Add to a collection of computer generated stories (a classroom living library). Students will enjoy reading about other students, especially if it is written in an interesting manner.
